What you are searching

What an insolvency search covers

Companies

Winding-up petitions and orders, resolutions for creditors’ voluntary liquidation, appointments of administrators and liquidators, and the meetings and dividends that follow. Search by company name or Companies House number. For petitions specifically, see the winding-up petition search.

Individuals

Bankruptcy orders made by the courts in England and Wales, with the court, case number and date. Search by name, with a postcode to narrow common names. For the detail, see the bankruptcy search.

Deceased estates

Notices to creditors placed by executors and administrators under the Trustee Act, which set the deadline for claims against an estate. Useful when a debtor has died rather than become insolvent.

What the Gazette does not carry

IVAs, Debt Relief Orders, county court judgments and Scottish or Northern Irish proceedings are recorded elsewhere. Use the Individual Insolvency Register for IVAs and DROs, and Companies House for a company’s current status.

Common questions

Insolvency search questions

Is there a free UK insolvency search?

Yes. Search here free, with no account. The Gazette’s own search is also free for one name at a time; this one lets you check up to 150 names in a single run and keeps the result as structured data.

Is there a single UK insolvency register?

No. Personal insolvency sits on the Individual Insolvency Register, company status on Companies House, and the notices themselves in The Gazette. The Gazette is the only one of the three that records corporate and personal insolvency events together and keeps them permanently.

How current is the data?

Results come from our index of The Gazette, which is refreshed from the official feed. The current-to date is shown above the search box.

Can I screen a whole customer or debtor list?

Yes. Paste up to 150 entries above. For whole books, ongoing monitoring and CSV export, create a free account or see the collections page.
